Hello my name is Samuel Miller i am a Aviation Management major student at Eastern Michigan University. For as long as i can remember i have had a big interest in aviation and everything in the sky. I originally had a fascination with astronomy and the study of stars and planets. I studied all the planets and their moons that were on their outskirts. This in turn led me to my love of aviation because i noticed that aircraft's were the closest thing to space shuttles so i wanted to study how did they get up there. So i chose my high school to be Davis Aerospace which is one of the only high schools of Aeronautics in Michigan. I began to learn how to fly and work on aircraft's from a maintenance standpoint. I began to learn the bone structures of aircraft's and what it took to make them fly. I am a Senior at EMU with 110 credits and i will be graduating in 2017 with my bachelors in Aviation Management Technology and i recently decided i would possibly like to use that degree to go in the world of Air Traffic Control. I know that i will have to test and go to Oklahoma City to get started and i am willing to do that. I would like to get my private and then commercial privates license in the midst of that. I wish i could get those right now but i don't have the funds for it so when i graduate and get my career started i will build up the money i need to complete those steps. I worked for Spirit and Delta Airlines so i know some of the necessities it takes to be a ATC like airport codes, flight loads and things like that but i know that there are many more things i will have to learn and i am willing to. While being a Air Traffic Controller, after i get my private pilots license, i would like to fly doing agriculture spraying fields due to the increasing demand for those pilots that many did not know about.  I came into Eastern with the goal to fly but due to the lack of funds i have grown more to understand the management side and the essentials it takes to keep a airline running correct and how to be the eyes for the pilots in the sky through certain processes. I would love to have a ATC speaker come in and elaborate more on how to get started in that process and the best times to go on the site to apply. I would also like for them to elaborate more on the specifics of what to study for before taking the test just to be well prepared. Another thing i am interested in is the high suicide rate of Air Traffic Controllers so i would specifically like to hear about that and their perspective.
